Okay, so, literally a year after reading the first book of “The Hunger Games,” I got around to reading the second two, in Vegas. Which is random, because I certainly loved the first book, and just…dicked around for a while.
“Mockingjay,” man. “Mockingjay.”
Fuckin’ dark, you know?
That…
September 15th is #Ravenclawpride day! Tweet @pottermore your pride!
Obviously, this is pretty gross.
But I noticed a surprising amount of self-righteous privilege in the comments about “my kid only had a book of sample SATs and some No. 2 pencils, and he got into Yale juuuuust fine.”
To which, may I very nicely remind you, one could say: then your child is…
GOD. DAMN. FORCE-FIELD!
Also, is it just me or is Hank of the Blood God Gulls in the upper left corner?
I think the connection is clear. Go watch ten minutes of present-day kids’ programming and you’ll come back wanting to save the children too.
Frivolous Facebook Meme of the Day: Long story short, in case you’re not current on the latest Facebook meme, people all over the world have been changing their profile pics to cartoon characters from their youth to “raise awareness” for violence against children.
I am completely with Urlesque on this one: How is this helping abused children? Folks participating in this meme aren’t doing a thing to raise awareness for actions their friends can take to support this cause, just merely pointing out the fact that children are being abused while letting everyone know they once had a thing for Snarf. Beatification, ho!
Here’s an idea: How about skipping the silliness and plugging a charity instead. This is a good one. This is another good one. As is this one.
Facebook has the potential to be a powerful catalyst for social change. But these frequent Facebook charity memes are meaningless exercises in futility. People don’t need to be made aware that breast cancer exists or that child abuse is a problem. What they need are real things they can do to support individuals battling these scourges.
Like memes? Here’s a good one: Things that actually make a difference. Feel free to spread it around.

And here I was thinking that it’s just Pokemon Profile Picture Month.

Damon just retweeted this. It’s a polar bear in a Dharma jumpsuit playing “Life and Death” on the accordion on Hollywood Boulevard.

“We struggled super hard trying to come up with an album title, trying to find some kind of phrase that summed up the whole aesthetic behind the album: ‘Heavy Mental,’ ‘Smaller Than Life,’” Cuomo says. “I was coming up with all kinds of stuff, but ultimately, we just went with some random word that doesn’t really have anything to do with anything. I just loved this photo of Jorge Garcia — it just had this amazing vibe. We didn’t want to do a fourth self-titled record and we knew people would refer to it as ‘the Hurley record’ even if left it without that title, so we just called it ‘Hurley.’ No words are on the cover because all we wanted was his amazing face.”
Unfortunately for ‘Lost’ fanatics, the album doesn’t feature any songs inspired by the hit show. In fact, Cuomo didn’t even watch it until meeting Garcia (he’s still watching the series, so don’t spoil the finale for him). “I only made it through season two, so I was really nervous hanging out with Hurley/Jorge recently, because I didn’t want to hear something about how it all resolves, or overhear anyone else talking about it,” he says. “I really like the show though.”
‘Hurley’ is due out Sept. 14 via Epitaph Records.
